Beautiful Feet

Reflexology is a type of complementary therapy that involves applying pressure to certain points on the feet, hands, and ears. This therapy is based on the belief that these specific points, also known as reflex points, correspond to specific organs and systems in the body. By applying pressure to these points, it is believed that the practitioner can promote healing and balance in the corresponding organs and systems.

Reflexology has been practiced for thousands of years, and it is believed to have originated in ancient China and Egypt. Today, reflexology is practiced all over the world and is used as a complementary therapy to treat a wide range of conditions, such as stress, anxiety, pain, and digestive disorders.

what to expect

During your reflexology session, you will typically sit or lie down while your practitioner applies pressure to specific points on your feet, hands, or ears using fingers, thumbs, or a specialised reflexology tool. The pressure may be gentle or firm, depending on your preference and the practitioner's assessment.

Reflexologists do not claim to diagnose conditions. However, reflexology can indicate areas of tension/congestion within the body. Your practitioner will discuss this in your appointment should need arise.

Reflexology, an ancient practice originating from Egypt, India, and China, made its way to the Western world thanks to Dr. William Fitzgerald’s pioneering work in the early 1900s. He introduced “Zone therapy,” which emphasised the connection between reflex areas on the hands and feet and various organs and areas of the body within the same zone.

Building upon Fitzgerald’s foundation, Eunice Ingham played a pivotal role in refining and popularising reflexology during the 1930s. Ingham believed that congestion or tension in specific areas of the foot reflects similar conditions in corresponding parts of the body. Her contributions have shaped the modern understanding and practice of reflexology.
