RESTORE scar tissue therapy massage

Scar Tissue Therapy

Whilst scars are a reminder of lifestyle changes and challenges, they’re also marks of incredible resilience. But sometimes scar tissue can affect how your body feels or moves long after wounds have healed, and it can also impact how you feel about your scar.

Our RESTORE Scar Tissue Therapy, is delivered with skill and care offering a gentle, non-invasive way to support your body’s recovery and comfort.

What Is Scar Tissue Therapy?

Scar tissue forms naturally as your body heals after surgery, injury or trauma. While scars are permanent, the tissue beneath can become restricted, tight or adhered to underlying structures, which can lead to discomfort, sensitivity, pulling sensations or limited movement. RESTORE Scar Tissue Therapy uses specialised techniques to help reduce:

  • Encourage healthy tissue remodelling to limit tightness and limited movement

  • Increase skin and fascial mobility and reduce pain, sensitivity and numbness

  • Improve circulation around the scar to help reduce fibrous scar tissue or scar adhesions.

Using specialist scar massage and fascial techniques, at the right pace and pressure which is tailored to suit you, and provide self-care advice for caring for your scar at home. We can work on new scars from 8 weeks, and it is ideal to book a RESTORE scar tissue therapy appointment in the first 6-12 months after an injury or surgery (even if you are not experiencing any unwanted complications).

RESTORE Scar Therapy

what to expect

Your first appointment begins with a thorough consultation to understand when and how your scar developed, any ongoing symptoms such as tightness, pulling, numbness or discomfort, and how it may be impacting you.

Treatment uses precise, hands-on techniques designed to improve tissue mobility, circulation and glide beneath the scar. This is not forceful work; pressure is carefully adapted to the age and sensitivity of the scar. Most clients describe sensations of gentle stretching, warmth or mild tenderness in restricted areas. You remain in control and consulted throughout. Simple aftercare advice and, where appropriate, easy ‘at home’ self-management techniques will be provided to support your progress between sessions. Anyone with a scar associated with: trauma scars, keyhole surgery, major surgery, cosmetic surgery or skin graft, historic injury, burn scar, caesarean, or joint replacement may benefit from RESTORE.

Some temporary tenderness or increased awareness around the scar can occur for 24–48 hours as tissues respond. The number of sessions required varies depending on the age, depth and complexity of the scar, and progress is reviewed collaboratively.

important clinical information

RESTORE Scar Tissue Therapy is suitable for fully healed scars, including surgical, traumatic, burn and sports-related scars. Treatment can begin once wounds are completely closed and medically stable (after 8 weeks as a minimum); recent surgical scars may require GP or consultant clearance before treatment. Therapy is not appropriate where there is active infection, unhealed tissue, unstable medical conditions or certain dermatological concerns. If you are unsure whether your scar is ready for treatment, we are happy to advise prior to booking. Scar therapy works well alongside physiotherapy, massage therapy and post-surgical rehabilitation plans as part of a coordinated recovery approach.
